The Tar Ovens in Hesselvig Plantation.

Two kilometres east of Skarrild are the rebuilt tar ovens in Hesselvig plantation. They were restored in the beginning of the nineteen-nineties and are, as far as it is known, the only ovens that have been preserved in Denmark. The two old tar ovens were rebuilt as a memory of an old occupation that has been abolished a long time ago. The tar ovens give a picture of how you produced charcoal and wood tar – at the same time they show a piece of history of civilization that belongs to the Jutlandic plantations.
